Tonight we went to the First Republic of
Colombia. This is where the Declaration of
Independence was written. An earthquake
destroyed most of the structure here.
Mya has had a great day. She is now signing and saying
"more" independently. She is also signing "eat." We are
working on some others like swing, slide, water, and all done.
She loves seeing the connection between doing a sign and
then getting what she actually wants. She just laughs and
smiles when she does it. When she can't tell us what she
wants she points and cries or screams. This hardly happens
anymore, so we feel like communication is going well.
All of the pavers and stone is where this house use to be
prior to the earthquake.
Update on Adoption:
Our attorney met with us this evening. She had the paper
work sent to Pamplona today. The judge is asking for
additional information that is not required. We are still
not sure what he is asking for. She said it was a document
that doesn't exsist.
So, our attorney is going tomorrow morning to Pamplona to
speak with the judge. She said if she is not able to resolve it
tomorrow, then she will request another judge. Apparently,
he is being very particular. So, please pray for a good meeting
with him tomorrow.
We may still need to go to Pamplona for the Final Decree. We
are okay with this because we will have a slower driver. We love
our attorney's confidence and determination, but her driving....well
lets just say you will need motion sickness meds:) We don't want to
argue with the judge at all. So we are just going with the flow.
There is another family here adopting siblings. They are from
Germany. Today is there 12th day and they are there way
to Bogota to finish up the adoption. So, this is great news for
families adopting from Cucuta. Remember, we are adopting
from Pamplona and going through there courts. This apparently
is a big difference.
The attorney says her foster parents would like to contact us by
email to send pictures and videos of Mya. I think I am going to
set up a different email account. That is what our Attorney
recommended. Does anyone else have communication with
the foster families?

I have the emails of both of the foster families. Everything has worked wonderfully throughout the past year and a half since our adoption. Never have I taken offense to their emails. Usually they are just curious how the children are doing, and send emails letting me know of the fondness and love they had for my children, and how much they miss having them around. I have their mailing addresses and their telephone numbers. We have occasionally called them but it is very hard to understand their spanish especially when the ladies are so excited and screeching with excitement. Rarely do families have that option to contact the foster families. I hope you will experience the blessing that comes with having that link. Also, hoping for good luck with the judge. I know firsthand the frustration so keep believing God's got this handled already! It just might take a little maneuvering.
Oh, forgot to mention that we went through the same thing. Apparently they were requesting a document that doesn't exist. From what I can remember our attorney had to draft up some sort of document that was so senseless because the judge wouldn't bend on requiring that particular item. Sorry to hear that you are enduring some of the same craziness we went through! Sure sounds like you now have the same judge we had.
Hang in there. We had a new judge for our region and we were his first intl. adoption case. He let it be known (even in our final decree) that he was against intl. adoption and he drug his feet. But all ended well and he even had a change of heart after seeing Angelica with us. While it was frustrating it all turned out okay. We are now grateful for every minute we got to spend in her birth country. We now wish that we would have had the same in Guatemala with Brian.
We wish we would have been able to have contact with Angelica's foster family but we were told it was not possible. We have maintained contact for almost 8 years with our son's foster family in Guatemala. While they have on several occasions asked for financial help..we don't address it and just send pictures, cards, etc. We do ocassionally send special items to their children.
Your daughter is beautiful and seems to be doing so well. We are so happy for you guys!
